Abstract

Tobacco is a crop of great economic importance in Brazil, being this the second world producer. However, the cultivation of tobacco causes several problems related to the misuse of the soil, having seen that the cultivation is very intense, which causes a lot of soil damage. As most seedlings are obtained in sowing, it is important to have rapid and uniform germination. The objective of this work was, therefore, to evaluate the initial growth of tobacco culture in different substrates. Seven different substrates were compared to evaluate the initial growth of tobacco seedlings, which consisted of: T1-Sand Witness, T2- organic compost; T3- vermiculite; T4- sand with 1: 1 organic compound; T5- sand with 1: 1 vermiculite; T6- organic compound with 1: 1 vermiculite; T7- sand with vermiculite and 1: 1: 1 organic compound. . The treatment containing only organic compost obtained the best germination and plant development results compared to the other treatments and had good rooting. Followed by treatments that also contained proportion of organic compound. The treatments that did not have in its organic compound formulation, did not obtain germination. The substrate T2 was the best result in the parameters analyzed due to the presence of organic matter in its formulation, verifying the need of the plant for nutrients. This is the best treatment for the formation of initial seedlings of tobacco.
